sort I (detail of map), 4-minute video, map of Colby College campus, map pins, 2007

On the lobby wall of the Colby College Museum of Art was projected a silent, looped, 1-minute animation generated using 270 photographs taken by Curtis, throughout the entire campus over the course of 8 months. The photographs taken were monochromatic; Curtis set out to photograph 30 images per each of nine colors: black, white, red, yellow, blue, green, orange, light pink, and light blue. In the video, each set of 30 photographs were presented in order of intensity for a smooth transition from one still to the next. Curtis generated a large map of the campus, to indicate with 270 map pins of the same nine colors, where each photograph was taken.
