At start of SOUND's opening, Curtis recorded upon each recorder a different 9-word sentence. Over course of a year, Curtis had searched for these sentences through 72 of her books, selecting 9 to use for installation. Each participant instructed to choose a recorder, listen to recorded sentence once, and to replace sentence, repeating sentence to his or her best ability.
